Virginia STEAM Academy Summer STEAM Ambassador (’13) Katie Bird of Rocky Mount is serving as a science demonstrator at her local library, Franklin County Library. Ambassador Katie was selected by Virginia STEAM Academy and the Science Museum of Virginia to pilot a program where high school students with a zeal for STEAM and commitment to service learning serve as junior demonstrators in their local library’s efforts to inspire and expose younger students to STEAM. Ambassador Katie trained with library staff. She guided student participants in roller coaster design and, this month, building and launching paper rockets.
